AC TRANSIT IS OFFERING FARE-FREE SHUTTLES TO THE OAKLAND-ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM MASS VACCINATION SITE

February 12,2021

We’re putting the brakes on this virus with free shuttles to the free COVID-19 vaccine

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) led the way with free onboard facemasks and hand sanitizers, in the fight to stop the transmission of COVID-19. We continue to protect the East Bay’s health, now with fare-free shuttles to the free COVID-19 vaccine at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.

The Coliseum rests within the heart of several of AC Transit’s East Oakland bus line connections, to and from the Coliseum BART station, and nearby International, Foothill, and MacArthur boulevards. As a result, AC Transit has authorized the temporary operation of two fare-free shuttle lines beginning Monday, February 15.

“East Oakland has been described as ‘left behind in prioritization,’” said Elsa Ortiz, AC Transit Board President. “However, service here has always been AC Transit’s priority. Even in the face of shelter-in-place orders, we never stopped rolling. The board is hopeful the fare-free vaccine shuttles, will give our communities the fighting chance to put the brakes on COVID-19.”

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES) will jointly manage the “mass vaccine site,” scheduled to officially open Tuesday, February 16. The vaccine site will operate 7-days a week from 7 am – 7 pm.

Appointments are required to receive the vaccine at the Coliseum site. Appointments may be made via the state's dashboard myturn.ca.gov. To access the fare-free vaccine shuttle, all riders must present their email proof of appointment to the Bus Operator.

Our first vaccine shuttle will operate every 15-minutes directly from Coliseum BART to the vaccination site. Riders of Bus Lines 45, 46L, 73, 90, and 98 may also connect to the vaccine shuttle at Coliseum BART.

This shuttle will operate 7-days a week between 6 am – 8 pm, and riders are reminded to watch for the head-sign: Vaccine Shuttle/BART-Coliseum.

The second shuttle will operate every 20-minutes starting at the Eastmont Transit Center, with a stop at Coliseum BART, before proceeding to the vaccine site. Riders of Bus Lines Tempo 1T, 40, 45, 57, 73, 90, 98, and NL may also connect to the vaccine shuttle at Eastmont.

This shuttle will also operate 7-days a week between 6 am – 8 pm, and riders are reminded to watch for the head-sign: Vaccine Shuttle/Eastmont-BART-Coliseum.

All vaccine shuttles will observe onboard rider social distancing requirements not to exceed 10 passengers per trip.

Additionally, all AC Transit buses are ADA compliant and can accommodate senior riders and those requiring the use of mobility devices. Additionally, our transit district has also worked closely with Cal OES and the Coliseum to install a curb height ADA platform and ramp, which ensures safe boarding and off boarding of the shuttles.

We have also requested dedicated bus lanes into and out of the Coliseum complex to optimize access.

All AC Transit bus lines, including the vaccine shuttles, require riders to wear facemasks while waiting at stops and at all times while onboard. We continue to offer free onboard facemasks and hand sanitizers to our riders.
