OUSD’S SCHEDULED LABOR STRIKE WILL AFFECT SELECT AC TRANSIT BUS LINES
OUSD’S SCHEDULED LABOR STRIKE WILL AFFECT SELECT AC TRANSIT BUS LINES
Seventeen bus lines will cancel, or detour service if no agreement by May 4
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) received notice from the Oakland Education Association (OEA) that its teacher members may strike districtwide on Thursday, May 4.
Students, parents, and residents are accordingly alerted that Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) schools will be open and continue to receive most AC Transit supplementary bus line service to schools during the scheduled teacher strike. All bus operations, however, will avoid crossing any picket lines.
As such, OUSD's Montera Middle and Skyline High Schools have specific logistic and bus service designs, which mandate that AC Transit cancel or detour service if OEA and the school district are unable to reach an agreement.
The following supplementary bus lines serving Montera Middle School will not operate during any walkout:
642, 646, 649, 650, 653, 655, 660, and 677
The following supplementary bus lines serving Skyline High School will bypass on-campus stops and instead board and exit riders at Skyline Boulevard and Balmoral Drive during any walkout:
617, 638, 646, 648, 649, 652, 654, 658, and 662
AC Transit's field transportation staff will be on location to assist rider needs of any of the 17 affected bus lines.
This potential OUSD labor strike is a fluid event and is being closely monitored by our transit district. Should both sides reach an agreement before the start of school on May 4, AC Transit will resume normal supplementary bus line operations and broadly notify our communities.
AC Transit riders are encouraged to track all service updates via actransit.org, on Twitter @rideact, or monitor local media for up-to-the-minute bus line notices.
