AC TRANSIT URGES RIDERS AND EAST BAY COMMUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED IN REDISTRICTING
Discover innovative ward mapping tools and share your insight
OAKLAND, Calif. – The Alameda-Contra Costa Transit District (AC Transit) is phasing out the existing two at-large seats on the Board of Directors and creating an all-new seven-ward election system for electing members to the Board of Directors.
Community members are welcome to offer input regarding their Communities of Interest or submit comments during the hearings or workshops. Additionally, AC Transit encourages individuals to share their thoughts through email or phone calls as alternative means of communication.
We have streamlined the ward mapping process by introducing online tools that enable users to create partial or comprehensive maps, reflecting their vision for how the ward boundaries should operate.
Participants in the redistricting process are requested to adhere to the following guidelines while creating maps: wards must be geographically contiguous, roughly equal in population, and leave neighborhoods and Communities of Interest undivided.
Communities of Interest can include but are not limited to income levels, educational backgrounds, cultural and language characteristics, and employment and economic patterns.
Redistricting participants are encouraged to complete a Community of Interest form on the dedicated redistricting webpage.
Community members are strongly encouraged to participate in any of the upcoming redistricting public hearings and workshops hosted by AC Transit. These events will cover various aspects of the redistricting process, such as the review of draft maps, and they provide valuable opportunities for attendees to share their feedback.
